Ettrick Burn Angling Opportunity

Published on Monday, December 5, 2011 - 10:15

The Ettrick Burn within the Murchison Mountains Takahe Special Area will be opened to anglers this season.

Fish & Game has negotiated a controlled access agreement where anglers holding Backcountry Licences, and then a “Controlled Area” licence for a specific day, may fish the lower 7km of this Lake Te Anau tributary.

Dates available to anglers are set three days apart to limit the pressure on the fishery. To ensure an even-handed system, fishing days cannot be booked more than five days in advance.

All bookings are on-line via the Fish & Game NZ website - click the Licences tab and go to Buy Licence Now, then look for Backcountry Licence.

Fish & Game Southland will be closely monitoring the compliance of anglers entering the Ettrick to ensure the concession gained for anglers will not be compromised for following seasons.
